A Dual-Pronged Approach to Youth Development
The halls buzzed with purposeful energy as the project rolled out simultaneously across different grade levels, utilizing a targeted, dual-pronged approach to address the unique needs of the students.
Nurturing the Soul: Identity and Purpose (Grades 7 & 8)
Recognizing that early adolescence is a critical period for self-discovery, the school brought in a massive collaborative team to guide the young learners. The lectures were passionately delivered by six pastors, led by Ptr. Michael Feril of the Butuan City Alliance Church. Joining them to bridge the generational gap were 40 dedicated members of the Peer Navigators, spearheaded by Angel Hannah Amam. Together, they created a safe space for students to explore their core values, mental well-being, and personal aspirations.
Knowing the Law: Juvenile Justice (Grade 9)
Simultaneous to the values formation classes, the Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a highly informative room-to-room advocacy lecture on the Juvenile Justice System. The specialized team, operating under the leadership of PMajor Ernesto Esteban Marcos Jr., included PSsg Lilibeth B. Page (Asst. WCPD PNCO) and Pat Kathleen H. Millor (Asst. Operation PNCO). Their presence underscored the reality of legal accountability, empowering the older teens with crucial knowledge regarding their rights and the boundaries of the law.
The Visionaries Behind the Movement
Project SHIELD is not an isolated event, but a strategic piece of a much larger puzzle. Initiated by Mr. Jayson S. Patalinghuga, the project serves as a cornerstone of the school’s broader Youth Optimizing Life Opportunities (YOLO) program.
The seamless execution of this multi-classroom, multi-sectoral event was made possible through the unwavering support of School Principal Elizalde S. Chavit, who championed the integration of holistic life skills into the school's culture.
As the classroom doors opened and the first batch of Project SHIELD concluded, the students walked out with more than just a break from their regular subjects. They walked out with a stronger sense of self, a clearer understanding of the law, and an invisible but powerful shield to carry into their futures.
